The Blues Music Awards (formerly W.C.Handy Awards) have named Duke Robillard "Best Blues Guitarist" four years out of five (2000,2001,2003,2004) making him the second most honored guitarist for that award! He was also nominated in that category in 2005, 2007 and again this year of 2008. In 2007 Duke received a Grammy nomination for his "Guitar Groove-a-rama" CD and was also honored with the prestigious Rhode Island Pell Award for "excellence in the arts" along with actress Olympia Dukakis, actor Bob Colonna, and R.I. Choreographer/Festival Ballet director Mihailo "Misha" Djuric. The Pell award is named for Senator Claiborne Pell who help establish the the National Endowment for the Arts and Humanities in 1965. Other awards over the last decade include three Canadian Maple Blues Awards in 2001, 2002, and 2003 for "Best International Blues Artist," The Blues Foundation's "Producer of the Year" award in 2004, The French Blues Association "Album of the Year" award in 2002 (Living with the Blues) and "Guitarist of the Year" awards in 1999 and 2002. BB King himself has called Duke "One of the great players," The Houston Post called him "one of God's guitarists. And the New York Times says "Robillard is a soloist of stunning force and originality. Matthew Stubbs + the Antiguas Matthew Stubbs is a Boston based guitarist and songwriter. In 2016, Matt formed Matthew Stubbs & The Antiguas, an all original, instrumental psych rock project. With The Antiguas, the focus is on the song, and the vibe and energy of live performance and sound experimentation. Matt is inspired to bring back the lost art of popular instrumental music, combining the spirit of past instrumental giants like Duane Eddy, Link Wray and Booker T, with fuzz, psychedelic textures, and doses of garage rock, blues, afrobeat, cinematic and atmospheric soundscapes. The Antiguas live shows are accompanied by psychedelic visual projections to create an immersive experience for the audience. Since its very recent inception, Matthew Stubbs & The Antiguas have been nominated for a 2016 Boston Music Award. Matt has a strong guitar pedigree, serving as the guitarist for Grammy Award winning Blues legend Charlie Musselwhite since 2007. Stubbs has also released two solo instrumental records in the Memphis Soul/Blues tradition, “Soulbender” (2008) released on the VizzTone Label Group, and “Medford and Main” (2010) from Chicago-based Blue Bella Records. Mr. Nick + the Dirty Tricks Mr. Nick & the Dirty Tricks unites veteran musicians Nick David (a.k.a. Mr. Nick), "Lonely" Gus Carlson, Teddy B. (Bukowski) and Rick Rousseau for one of New England's most formidable live outfits in any genre. But their hearts belong to blues. Real blues. They play elegant, stomping and swinging classics by the likes of Little Walter, Howlin' Wolf and Wynonie Harris and a mix of original rhumbas, jump blues, and boogies they're developing for a debut album and taking to a growing legion of fans throughout the US and abroad. "This band is a killer outfit," says David, who led the popular and critically acclaimed Mr. Nick's Blues Mafia. And that's the truth. Everything comes together when they play: their deep mutual understanding and knowledge of blues, their originality and depth as players, and the band's ability to put on a great show that brings people to their feet. It's a blend that wins new converts wherever they perform. Delta Generators The Delta Generators have accomplished a lot since forming in 2008. They won the Boston Blues Society’s Blues challenge in 2008, which earned them a spot in the International Blues Challenge held in Memphis in 2009. The band finished as a Top 10 Finalist out of over a hundred bands. The Delta Generators also won an Independent Music Award for Best Blues Album category for their debut album, Devil in the Rhythm in 2009. In 2009 they won Best Blues Band in Worcester Magazine for and were nominated for Best R&B Act in the Boston Phoenix in 2010. The DG’s 2nd album Hard River to Row was selected by the Blues Foundation as a Top 5 Finalist (out of entries worldwide) in the Best Self-Produced CD competition at the International Blues Challenge in 2011. This album also placed nationally at #8 on the Jam Band Radio Chart, #17 on the Living Blues Radio Chart and #25 in the Roots Music Report.
